Meet Sonia
Hello! I'm Sonia, a passionate and experienced Interior Designer based in the beautiful county of Dorset. Art and design have always been my true loves, and my journey has led me through the captivating realms of both.
My academic foundation in the History of Art has been a guiding light throughout my 20-year journey in the interior design industry. My career began alongside the esteemed BIID Interior Designer, Mary Barber Fray. Working with her, I was introduced to the elegant world of high-end interiors, igniting a spark that has inspired me ever since. In the years that followed, I had the privilege to work for a diverse range of clients—from private individuals to local and national developers and renowned hotel chains. Each experience enriched my knowledge and ability in designing for different sectors. The culmination of this led to the inception of Aucott Interior Design in 2011. Rooted in a profound appreciation for heritage properties and a deep-seated love for hospitality interiors, my studio was born with a single mission: to democratize classical, well-designed spaces and share their timeless beauty with as many people as possible. For me, the true magic lies in balancing period details, the meticulous considerations of aesthetics, embracing modern developments in design and the need for sustainability. Beautiful designs that will also withstand the rigours of day-to-day life are created through the careful balance of these elements.
When I'm not immersed in the world of design, you'll find me enjoying the joys (and challenges!) of motherhood. My beautiful children, Bella and Leo, are my constant inspiration and the reason I do what I do. Travel, whether in the UK or abroad, is an important part of our lives. Taking in the art and architecture—and the food!—of different cultures has given my children an insight into the world outside of their own sphere, an appreciation for all that they have, and the possibilities that are open to them. For me, the design and interiors of the places we visit provide a rich source of inspiration for my own work and I'm always on the lookout for new and innovative ways of designing. Guided by my Christian faith, the principles of truth, honesty and integrity underpin how I run my business. In a world that often craves authenticity, I am dedicated to delivering not just beautiful designs, but also spaces that reflect the values of my clients and the stories of their lives and businesses.
